The City of Granada

Similar as when we arrived in Seville, we were not quite up for Granada. As you can expect we are weary pilgrims, and no matter how many times you have done it, entering a new city is always somewhat intimidating. We arrived via train from Seville and took a cab to our hotel and arrived too early for check-in. So we walked the town, had lunch, and begin the process of learning what Granada is all about.

We walked to our Santa Fe friends’ Marc and Elayne’s house, who have recently remodeled an apartment there, but due to visa issues they were unable to be there when we visited. The apartment is in the old part of town called the Realejo. We walked to the Royal Chapel of Granada which holds the tombs of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, their daughter and son-in law and their grandson who died at age 2. Next we toured the beautiful Granada Cathedral, the Basilica Catedral Metropolitana de la Encarnacion.

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, the Cathedral of Granada, and two wonderful dinners are the memories we will take home with us. Those memories and of course Granada’s most special place, the Palace and Fortress site on the hill, the Alhambra.
